Bats in the Belfry

A Web walk each day with Peggie through a home called Peggie’s Place!

Anyone got “bats in the belfry” today–right before Valentine’s Day?? One day I got an email panic from a good friend. Seems that a bat got in her house and had the nerve to settle in her office. Now Christian webmasters are known to have all kinds of bothersome problems–but BATS? That’s another story and Vickie’s got a tip for you–keep a BROOM handy in your office, just in case! Husbands can help too! It was very funny to her faraway friend–but then I was not bat-challenged as she was–guess you had to BE THERE!

Back to the question, “Anyone got ‘bats in the belfry’ today?” Not REAL bats (it’s against the law to kill them!) and a REAL belfry (it’s against my better judgment to build one atop my house)! No, I’m talking about the wild, wooly, wacky thoughts that fly around in the back alleys of your brain, that lurk in corners and lie in wait, causing turmoil, confusion, fear, doubt, dismay–you name it–and BATS cause it! They’re the dark-eyed, defiant dissenters of the Lord and of YOUR Christian life–and they’ll take over, IF you let them!

Well, go get that broom–no, go get the Helmet of Salvation, the Sword of the Spirit, the whole Armor of God…and chase those bats out of your belfry today in the Name of the Lord! Fill your mind with the good things of the Lord–and watch those bats fly or flee–or whatever bats do–as I sit here with a smile at my computer and visualize all of you, in battle gear, battling bats all over the world! Have a great, bat-free day in the Lord–and remember, Valentine’s Day is on the way; make room for beloveds, not bats!

Scripture:
“…Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7 KJV).”

“…whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do, and the God of peace shall be with you (Philippians 4:8,9 KJV).”

Prayer: “Lord, I hate bats–and they’re in my belfry! Thoughts totally out of order, uncontrolled chaos from the enemy of my soul. I resist his advances in the Name of the Lord. I plead Your Blood, I put on the Helmet of Salvation and I will go on my way, praising the Lord who fills my mind with GOOD things! In Jesus Name, Amen.”

No Longer a Kid!

You’re asleep, but others worry that you’re dead.

Your back goes out more than you do.

You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who
walks into the room.

You buy a compass for the dash of your car.

You are proud of your lawn mower.

Your best friend is dating someone half their age
….. and isn’t breaking any laws.

Your arms are almost too short to read the newspaper.

You sing along with the elevator music.

You would rather go to work than stay home sick.

You constantly talk about the price of gasoline.

You enjoy hearing about other people’s operations.

You consider coffee one of the most important things in life.

You make an appointment to see the dentist.

You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

Neighbors borrow *your* tools.

People call at 9 p.m. and ask, “Did I wake you ?”
You have a dream about prunes.

You answer a question with, “because I said so!”

The end of your tie doesn’t come anywhere near the top
of your pants.

You take a metal detector to the beach.

You wear black socks with sandals.

You know what the word “equity” means.

You can’t remember the last time you laid on the floor to
watch television.

Your ears are hairier than your head.

You get into a heated argument about pension plans.

You got cable for the weather channel.

You can go bowling without drinking.

You have a party and the neighbors don’t even realize it.
