Words for a Devil-got-you-down Day

A fun ‘n faith devo rerun for today…..OK, the devil didn’t make me do it, but one fateful day several years ago, I decided to walk on a sleeping foot….not intentional, you understand, but don’t do it – bad move, as you can guess! The resulting, hilarious (!?!) adventure is recorded in “A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to the Word!”

Another day….another time……Jeremiah, in the dungeon, in the dark – and the devil DID put HIM down there (you can read about it here: Jeremiah 38:6). Into that dark, dank pit, the Light of God shone, into Jeremiah’s heart – God was with Him. Today you know him as the author of the Book of Jeremiah, a Bible blessing to all pit-dwellers even to this day…..and even to you, should YOU be sittin’ in a pit this day!

And the word to the broken-down and the cast-down?? It’s “RISE AND SHINE” from the Lord! (See Micah 7:8 (KJV).) When the devil – or even your own foolishness – knock you down or put you down, don’t stay there. Arise in the Name of the Lord….and if you’re a writer, write a devotional or a BOOK about it (thank you, Jeremiah!).

So YOU are having one of those ‘devil-GOT-you-down’ days? Fear not – rise and shine! Remember, God is still at work in your life, even in the break-downs and put-downs of life. Believe it, learn from your experience, draw deep from His strength and grace, and YOU will have a GREAT, ‘devil-PUT-you down’ day!!

Prayer: “Lord, I’m in the pit with Jeremiah and need a word from you. Let Your Word become alive in my dark soul. Encourage and lift up my spirit; may Your Light shine in the darkness, and Your power deliver me, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A VALENTINE “MISS”–MY MATE!

So here I sit, in all my glory…
Lend me an ear, and I’ll tell you a story.
I once had a wife–she was such a dear;
Then came the Net, and it all disappeared!

Now there she sits, for hours on end;
“Don’t care where I’m going–don’t care where I’ve been.”
Could be three, or it could be nine;
She really doesn’t care, long as she’s online.

She gets out of work and rushes home;
She comes in yelling at me, “Get off the phone!”
Where is my hug? Where is my kiss?
But she’s at the computer–that’s all she missed!

Talking to cyberfriends, checking the mail–
I might as well be in a cyberjail!
My stomach’s growling–it’s so unfair;
No clean dishes and no clean underwear!

Drink me a Coke, stare at the walls;
I’ll pick at my teeth and roam the halls.
Laughing and typing, what a sight I get to see.
Can you believe she’s there–when she could be with ME!
